Feed the Snails!

Today we planted seeds for snail food.
The hundreds of seeds will come up in a week or two. Great huge extended families of snails wait in anticipation.
YUM! Little delicious, delicate shoots!

Snails will roam at an amazing pace for such slow creatures, sliming along until, voilĂ  ,
the tender greenery unfurls.

We farmers are hoping for a few sunflower survivors.
Can the shoots make it past the little chompers?
Can they push up far enough to pass snail height?

We've seen snails chewing away, upside down,
dangling on the poor weak stems,
weighed down to the ground.

Dear snails,

Please go find a mound of corn meal,
eat your fill,
then poop out all our seedlings and dirt.
Cleanse your innards.

Your host gourmand will love you.
Treat you with tenderness.
Hoping, after a little applied heat and butter, you will be tender enough to deliver a little chomp yourselves.

sincerely,
your hosts,

J & T
Gopher Flats, CA

p.s. Would you please be kind enough
to speak to any gophers you come across?
Perhaps they could seek a gopher spa elsewhere.
