Esther Williams made it fancy for Hollywood.

A degree of difficulty came later with the sport.

The Olympics showcase the best synchro athletes.
Glamorous costumes, makeup and hair are still required, as is making it look easy, but they are holding their breaths while working out under water, an athletic endeavor.

Russia has an amazing award winning team.



In the late 50's and early 60's Marin hosted a Ballet Aquacade.

My brothers participated in the diving and swimming exhibitions. It was thrilling to watch them step off the high dive backwards, do a flip and punch into the water. I remember sighing at the dressy bathing suits and flowery swim caps, they were so pretty. The synchronization was stunning to my young eyes.

Those were the days.
