Falcon Sadness

...
Sad news about the young peregrines in San Francisco.

The tiercel (the male) fledged today from his ledge on the PG&E building. He became distracted by some crows, bumped into a skyscraper window and was killed. So sad when we'vewatched him grow from an egg.

The two sisters (simply called falcons) await their flight date and I hope it goes well. They fledge later than the males because they are the larger and heavier of the two, thus needing stronger wing muscles. There is an awful lot of flapping and flap-hopping going on at the scrape (nest) right now, even some flap-hop-flying so they'll be off soon.

Keep them in your prayers and dreams.
