Blue Whale Revisited

One Animal Unseen

I'm sorry to seem obsessed with Blue Whales.
But, I am obsessed.
I cannot get over this animal.

I stood high on a hill
at the Audubon Ranch,
seeing eye to eye huge great blue herons; nests and fledglings.

I watched, just watched,
fifty harbor seals sleep
at the end of the Limontour spit.

Overhead, battling ravens and hawks,
spin down through the air currents
and I am stunned, frozen until they are out of sight.

Seahorses at Monterey Aquarium left me without words.

Elephants marching great distances to meet family.
Remembering the ones dead,
only bones to show, this is astounding.

Excuse my amazement.
I can not get over the blue whale.

Try to hear to the infrasonic rumblings of blue whale calls.

There is no comparison, now or ever to walk Earth.
