Where are the grown~up offspring on Pop's Day?
Off participating in their own lives.
Phone calls from Chicago.
Sometimes E-cards by email.
In old days, stores carried cards that didn't fit Pear:
Anglers' tying flies in hip boots.
A funny tie motif.
Again with the hip boots, a duck hunter with shotgun,
wading in cattails with his faithful dog.
T relates to the dog part and the funny part.
Hallmark does not make Happy Pear Day cards.
Homemade ones are best! His favorites.
First thing in the morning...mandated sleeping in.
Then Sunday funnies upon waking, with black coffee.
T hears whispering at the kitchen table.
Sounds of scribbling.
"Don't look!
Don't come in here, Pop!" cry 3 little voices.
Yummy children's breakfast~smells waft down the hall.
Now comes the proscession,
serious children come balancing trays
with decorative constuction paper mats,
loaded with toast and jelly & pears for Pear.
Or something from Joe's A1 Bakery,
or pancakes and sometimes even cake!
Cards first, creative works of art made during a classroom project!
Then presents often including chocolate,
car books or coupons for fantastic promises of help or entertainment!
T cheers, "OH, cool! Wow.
Neato cards!
And you made breakfast?!"
Then the morning nap.
The little guys loved the fun,
noisily climbing into the bed,
giggling, tickling,
jumping on Pear.
Father's Day is for the kids as much as the father.
