The minute I saw a Calder, I felt I was home.
Calder pursued the simple; his wonderful mobiles,
wire sculptures, and paintings
could initiate soft delightful feelings for the viewer.
Fundamentally, Calder was an engineer,
working out of a studio space that could be called a shop.
A true fine artist, yet he never let go of simple wonder.
His work carries gentle charm.
I'm not sure if he's making statements in his work,
but I do know that the emotions his pieces evoke thrills.
He may not delve into politics,
he may not be commenting on the hard human condition,
but perhaps he's commenting on a human love of light,
movement and thoughtfulness...
And isn't this part of the human condition after all?
This video is quite long (5 min), but wonderful.
