Equine fur.
Lesson hoses deserve long smoothing pats for good roll-backs and spins.
Allan, the champion reining horse, is very patient when I'm as dense as a doornail. He tries to teach the skill-less, though he balks at my uncoordinated, rough kicks...he's too sensitive for that.
He knows to set his back legs and turn on the front like a crazy spinning top, 'round and 'round, faster and faster, 'til I'm dizzy, 'bout to fall off, but truly, undeniably safe in Allan's care.
Even when I'm pressing with the wrong leg and reining in the wrong direction, ("Use the OTHER right leg!") and confusing the patient horse.
He sits and contemplates my mistaken aids (cues) and tries to follow. Finally the trainer takes over, slowly directing my body for Allan's benefit and then; there he goes, spinning for the joy of it...blue ribbons on his stall for all to see.
