It's Over My Head!
I am an educated woman.
My degrees:
AA
ECE
BA
I work in the world of education.
We must learn CPR and basic First Aid, this I understand.
We also must learn about NIMS and SEMS.
Today we had a lecture,
PowerPoint presentation and test.
I passed.
100%
Because we have to.
The presenter gave us information first,
then questions
and lastly answers,
one boooooooorrriiiiinnnggg
PowerPoint page at a time.
No clue what she was talking about.
I thought I would die,
I hoped time would stop.
Or speed up.
Homeland Security,
heard of it?
We're on orange all the time,
that's all I know about it.
Until now.
Now I know what this huge
all-powerful,
bureaucratic entity
has to do with us little people.
We, who work in any governmental capacity,
must pass the test.
So they give us the answers to the questions that are incomprehensible.
For the sake of homeland security.
Do you feel secure?
Our presenter worked with governmental entities to learn the system herself.
A presenter told her it's like flying an airplane while you are building it.
Do you feel secure?
Here are a few officious acronyms:
ACS
auxiliary communication center
PIO
public information officer
EOC
emergency operations commander
ICS
incident command system.
SEMS
standardized emergency management system
NIMS
national incident management system
I hope you remember this
during an "incident".
For your information, here is the order of the
Declaration Process:
1. FEMA
2. State
3. Region
4. County
5. City
6. District
7. School
8. Position
Basically all I got out of this tedious lecture
was a suggestion to carry granola bars
and a blanket in my car.
Oh, and a change of clothes,
maybe some water.
Do you feel secure?
I feel insane.
