Walking the dogs is good,
but it's too easy for strolling to become dragging,
if you get too tired.
Horses don't stroll,
at least Gizmo,
the Thoroughbred,
doesn't stroll.
His line was created for racing.
Trotting is a chore for him.
"Can't we just go straight to the canter?"
His line was created for racing.
Trotting is a chore for him.
"Can't we just go straight to the canter?"
With 3 teenage girls I cantered.
Gizmo is so smooth, really like a rocking horse.
The mustangs leap and leap.
Gizmo strides and slides along.
I used to be able to canter only once or twice around the arena.
Cantering was too scary. Out of control.
I held my breath!
Hold on to the saddle horn for dear life!
Don't fall off!
Don't bounce or slip off!
But today I cantered on Gizmo,
over and over again, round and round,
countless times around.
Why be afraid when such a fun time is to be had?!
Breathless and sweating (me and Gizmo both) we had to cool down.
Teenagers want to go full tilt,
no cooling down for them.
Playing Simon Says on horseback slows things down.
They become teachers.
"On three, do a reverse turn, 1, 2, 3, reverse!"
Later, horses stop.
Did we tell them to line up?
Who cares, girls are talking and laughing.
Just get off and brush the hot horse.
Walk Gizmo back to his corral,
Unbuckle the lead rope,
unbuckle the halter,
slip off the halter and with a smack on the neck for praise,
let that horse jump and run away.
Drag the saddle back to the car with other equitation equipment.
Take a hot shower when you get home,
sweating demands it, and I never sweated before.
