Making Communion Bread

For heaven's sake people!!,
Would you please give God a little Glory?
Everyone talks about doing
community service.
Volunteering, a great virtue.
Now teenagers have to!
It's in the curriculum.

Looking for ideas?
You can become a MENTOR.
You can work at a community garden.
You can serve MEALS.
You can teach people to read at the library
or you can shelve books.

I have a calling,
a precious call to give of myself.
To volunteer,
to share the bounty God has given.

I bake communion bread
for the contemporary service at church.
Or, as some call it:
the 9:00 service.
Or, as others call it:
The family service.

i.e.
come on down, it's casual,
a happy time is to be had by all!

Kid's get kids' church,
but first there is a children's sermon
with the whole congregation listening.
Sometimes the punch is bigger than the adults' sermon.
Sometimes I "get it" during children's sermon.
Sometimes T whispers,
"It's the children's sermon, go on up to the front."
Sometimes I want to;
they can really see up there.

Then off the children go.
Pastors playing guitar and singing some silly songs.
Teaching a story about the Bible.
In kids' own language.

But everyone's back together for communion.
The whole famdamnly.
Wait, is that appropriate for a church story?

Now is my golden moment.
The bread is broken.
I made it and it's deeeeeelicious.
Molasses-y.

My mouth waters.
I only take the little piece I'm given.
Dip it in wine in the clay chalice to soften,
savor it...
and church takes on
an extra spiritual glow!

Yum!
And credit for the deed is a bonus!
And an uplifting message for the week.
What more do I need!

God I love church!
