or
"CHAOS REIGNS"
And why shouldn't they paint at home?!
There's stuff at home to paint.
Like still lifes for instance.(still lives?)
...en plein aire!Radios on radios on antique furniture.
A couch with pillows, a coffee table with books, or coffee.
r they could sit in the garden and paint
En le Jardine!
Pardon my French.
Pardon my French.
The rusty, powdery roses are flowering!
The climbing morning glories are bitten, though brilliant!
The tall holly hocks, with chewed up leaves are a' blooming,
ready to release massive numbers of seeds into the lawn!
Thousands of baby sunflowers are partially eaten
or mowed down by ravenous snails.
Various plump succulents are taking over the flower beds,
sucking the life outta' infant sunflowers
or lifelessly withering from too much watering.
The grass is 1/2 dead, 1/2 gopherized, so WATCH YOUR STEP!
(I wonder if we have homeowners insurance for gopher holes?)
The hillside butterfly bushes reach high with blue purple blossoms,
hemmed in by vital, sturdy grass,
taller than the transplants themselves.
The apple and pear orchard oozes summer bounty.
Fruit drilled by sweet~loving bees and bugs,
or falling to bruise and rot,
or gripping tightly to branches, hard as rocks.
So many apples end up in our compost!
A rich homemade pile, mucky, oily, black gold,
Hosting volunteer squashes & tomatoes.
but fine dusty, sandy dirt resists watering,
like water off ducks' backs.
(water really does bead up and roll off ducks)
Vegetables creep up from their rows, millimeter by millimeter.
Corn, beans, leeks, lettuce...so romantic;
about 3 inches tall after weeks or obsessive care.
Adelaide prowls outside, finding bits of foilage for a tiny vase.
Jewel mindlessly prepares to paint, moving junk and piles.
Chocolate is consumed, voilĂ !
Fifteen minutes of work.
A dislikes her watercolor.
J accomplishes nothing at all.
For 2 old friends, a very satisfying visit!
