He was spending a few months studying in Florence. Suddenly, three weeks before he's due to return, we realize:
"Life's short! We're not young anymore!
We'd better finally get our butts to Europe!"
At the airport we looked for A. but only saw some weird guy, standing outside customs, waving and gesturing. That's odd, he did have A's posture and movements, but wore instead wild dark brown bushy hair, full beard and was dressed in flannels.(read: pajamas!).
Took us a moment.
He was a hard driving tour guide; had us striding through the twisting narrow streets at breakneck speed! We assumed he didn't want us to miss a thing!

A.H. Tours ~ Our Motto is: "Move it or Lose it!"
"Come on old people, no lagging, we’ve got places to see!"
We got to hang out with this educated art historian kid who talked us and walked us through the rigors of first time European tourists.
Tuesday nights he sits in with the house band at a jazz club called:
*The Jazz Club*
stereotypically tucked away in an impossible to find alley, funky and snobby. Drumming in that much smoke could send a musician to the hospital with asthma and bronchitis.
Now imagine the boys' apartment: so messy that the cleaning people refuse to come until they've cleaned up! Across the hall live a bunch of girls who feed our poor starving son (read: can't cook) and take him to the emergency room when he is so sick! We call, "Everyone's screaming!" What on earth is going on?!" "Nothing's wrong, that's just the way they talk."
We Californians could not understand that places could be so old!
Or that our son was an adult.
Three years later we're still trying to take it all in.
*The Jazz Club* Review: Nightlife Spot: The Jazz Club.
Being from New Orleans, I realize I am a jazz snob. Being inundated with excellent jazz does that to you. So, it was no surprise to me that the jazz here was average for my taste. However, we all had a good time at this club, so all's well that ends well! The club is situated downstairs underground, and the people at the entrance will try to tell you that you have to be a member to enter. Just say that you are from out of town and are only here one night, and just like most of Italy, rules are bent.
Theme: Live Music. Dress Code: Jeans are fine, but nice shirts.
